On Wednesday night last the local .table tennis club was engaged In playing two matches, one an A grade game between Glen Oroua A and B teams, and the other a B grade game between Glen Oroua and Oroua Downs A. In the former game the A team was successful In defeating the B team by 22 games to 14, while in the latter. Glen Oroua defeated Oroua Downs by 21. games to 15. The provious week a team of Oroua Downs ladies played a friendly match against a Glen Oroua ladies' team, .the result being a draw, IS games each. Last Wednesday afternoon the recently formed Glen Oroua ladies hockey team played the Carnarvon ladles at Clydesdale. Carnarvon were the winners by 6 goals to 2, but the game was much .more even than the scores indicate. Misses ! M. Scott and A. Soxton were tho scorers for Glen Oroua. The Te : Kawau Rugby Sub-Union’s primary schools' competition for the Penney banner was advanced a further stage on Friday afternoon when the combined Glen Oroua-Tailiorea team met the Rongotea boys at the Glen Oroua school ground. A.strong.wind accompanied by frequent heavy showers made conditions unpleasant for both players and spectators, of which tliere was a fair crowd present. The combined team won the toss and elected to play with the wind which gave considerable assistance. Within five, minutes of the start M. Parlato (half) obtained tho ball from the scrum and went over to draw first blood for combined. Other tries were scored by R. Law lor, C. Webb and J. Scott (2), while P. Sullivan converted on two occasions. At half time the score was 19—0 in favour of Glen Oroua-Taikorea. After the change over Rongotea worked hard and were rewarded with a try in the corner, but combined Kept the ball in for the rest of the game and no other scores resulted to either side. The backs for the combined team all worked well, particularly J. Scott and M. Parlato, while the outstanding forwards were W. Hunt, N. .Tones, G. Hill and J. Huddleston. A marked improvement in play was shown by tho two latter boys. A friendly game of basketball was played on Friday afternoon between the Glen Oroua and Talkovea school girls at Glen Oroua. The previous week Taikorea won by S goals to 7, but on this occasion Glen Oroua were tho victors by B goals to 2. Scores for Glen Oroua. were obtained by Jeanette Scott (4), Ina Parlane and Margaret Poupard.' Miss E. Phillips (Glen Oroua) refereed. The lowest barometer reading recorded at the school for tho past seven years occurred on Friday morning when 28.65 inches were registered at 9 a.m. At 10.30 a.m. tho reading was 28.55 Inches, but at 3 p.m.' there was a rise to 28.7 inches.

Miss E. Phillips, assistant teacher at the local school, accompanied by her brother,.- Mr. T. Phillips, of the staff of Ashburton High Schooi, and Mr. R. Saunders, of Glen Oroua, left on Tuesday by car for Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Pariaue and family left on Tuesday, for the Walrarapa where part of the school vacation will be spent.
