The known death-roll as a Tcsult of Sunday’s hurricano is 50, with 300 injured. Much of tho city was laid waste. It is feared, however, that many more bodies are buried in the debris or have not been recovered from tho water which swirled in from the overflowing rivers to cover low-lying sections.
Unofficial estimates state that the injured number thousands and the homeless are huddled in municipal buildings, schools and parks. All are being supplied with small rations —corn, beans and coffee —front the meagro supply remaining. The water supply is exhausted and an epidemic is feared. The military authorities report that they rescued large numbers neck-deep iu water. All the town along the banks of tho Panucotamesi and shores of Lake Carpintero has beon destroyed, while Tampico suburbs were severely damaged. An airman who circled the city said that the majority of tho largo buildings had resisted the shock, but fully half of the cheaper native dwellings had been demolished.
