From Our Own Correspondent. Ping Pong. Two teams of ping pong players come over from Mount Richards last Saturday evening for a match against the Apiti Club. The visitors were the stronger teams and won in both A and B sections. At the conclusion of play supper was dispensed by the Apiti social committee. Following are the scores. A Teams. L. Mount Richards B 15, Apiti B 19 . Farewell Afternoon. On Friday afternoon the ladies of the Methodist Church entertained Mrs. Davey and Miss Olive Davey at a farewell afternoon at the residence of Mrs. J. Mapson. Mrs. Davoy and her daughter arc shortly leaving Apiti to reside in Otaki, and as- Mrs. Davey celebrated her 80th birthday on Friday, her friends arranged the party for that day. The guests of honour were each presented with a posy of violets and spring flowers. Mrs. T. Purnell, on behalf of those present, extended good wishes to the departing guests and expressed the hope that they would be happy in their new home. Mrs. Purnell then asked Mrs. Davey to accept a snapshot album as a token of the esteem of her friends. Miss Davey, in a neat speech, returned thanks. Photographs of tho assembled guests were then taken, and these photographs, with others of local interest, will be added to the album. A very dainty afternoon tea was served and those present were Mosdames J. Mapson, T. Purnell, H. Osborne, W. Pratt, J. Jensen, W. McKay, G. 11. Gubbins, Misses Joyce Osborne, Nita Osborne, M. Purnell and Joan Mapson. Arbor Day.

Arbor Day was celebrated on Thursday at the. Apiti school. Tlio shrubs sn tho school grounds were topped and the boys prepared forestry plots in which to plant out seeds in October. The committee members were all present as well as a number of parents. After a game of • football by the midgets, all present enjoyed afternoon tea. Last week Mr. Mcrrington, one of the Wanganui Education Board’s inspectors, paid an annual visit of inspection to the Apiti school. Mr. Merrington conducted -preliminary oral tests of the pupils who will later sit for tho proficiency examination. Miss Jean Cowan is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Cowan. Miss Pengelly, of Christchurch, is at present the guest of Mrs. G. H. Gubbins at - the school house. Mr. and Mrs. W. Gillies, of Wanganui, visited Apiti at the week-end and renewed acquaintance with several friends in tho district . ' Tug-of-war enthusiasts are again in training for the contest next Thursday night in aid of funds for the Apiti school.
