From Our Own Correspondent. Beaten, but by no means disheartened, was the opiniou of Eongotane hockey girls when they met Huia on Wednesday. The girls have greatly improved since they met Huia in the jirst round, and the visitors found that they had to fight to win. During the first spell three goals were notteu by Huia, the first in less than a minute of starting. Eongotane wero taken by surprise. The girls made quite a few attempts but could not pass the strong backs of the visitors. After the spell the local team tried very hard, Miss Angus in the backs making good saves. However, Eongotane was by no means disgraced by being beaten 6-0, seeing Huia is the leading team in the competition. Mr Hayward and Mr Sivertsen refereed. After the match a very much appreciated afternoon tea was provided by the girls and supporters. Miss Joyce Elliot thanked the girls for their sporting game and expressed regret at the injury caused to ono of the spectators —a broken nose sustained by Mr Wilfred Hurrel. This unfortunate occurrence marred the willingness of both teams. The anniversary of the Sunday school was celebrated recently, many pupils and parents being present.
