At Ihe monthly meeting of the Borough Council, presided over by the Mayor (Mr J. D. Wilson), it was decided to reduce the rates for the borough by one penny in the pound, and strike a consolidated rate of lOd in the pound, instead of several special Tates. Among the guests were officials of the AVellington Acclimatisation Society m the persons of Dr. G. F. V. A. Anson, president, and Air E. J. AA r iffen, secretary. Air J. Brassell, the local Anglers’ Club representative on the society, aud members of Palmerston North, AVoodville and Daunevirke clubs were also present. There were a number of toasts proposed by capable speakers, some in serious vein aud some humorous, and each responded to an like manner. Dr. Anson presented the Stockwell cup to the representative of the Daunevirke Club, which had won it after Pahiatua had held it for six years. Dr. Anson also presented the club

trophies to the winners: Air W. A. Darley the reel for the handicap reel competition with total bags of 70Mb; Mr F. Barraelough winning Air A. A. Vaughan's second prize. Mr. AV. Fergus received Air A. A. Vaughan’s cup for the heaviest bag for one day’s fishing, and Mr H. K. Mann Mr A. Morgan’s trophy for the heaviest bag on any three days. Mr J. H. Brown’s junior cup was won by Air D. Eddie and Mr E. Eddie’s trophy by Air G. Fergus. Among the singers were Messrs .T. Husband, S. Iv. Siddclls and Clias. Irving, Air Alan AVilson acting as accompanist. The. Eketahuna Golf Club lias held the Gregorio cup for some years, but last week-end a men’s team from the Pahiatua Club managed to annex it with 71- matches to Eketahuna’s 44 matches. Tho cup was presented by Air Nicholson to Mr D. Ilowden, club captain of Pahiatua. ( Pahiatua is having a run of “grey days. The dryness is appreciated, but if accompanied by sunshino would be doubly so. The wind blowing off the snowclad Tararuas is very cold. Air Gay, a member of the staff of tho local post office, who was transferred from Napier after tlxo Dig earthquake, has been re-transferred to Napier, and left this week. Airs Gay, accompanied by their son, will be joining Air Gay in a few days’ time.
