Maharahara

Last Tuesday a friendly hockey and football match was played between Muharahara and Oringi, and. resulted in a win for Maharahara ladies by 5 goals to nil (Miss .1. Aldcrson 2, Mrs Leslie 2 and Miss McKay 1). Mr W. Knyvett and Mr Herewini carried the whistles.

The football match, which was played immediately aftfir tho hockey, was won by Oringi by 12 points to C. Tries were scored for Oringi by Cullinane, Rewi and Bonficld, and a penalty kick. For Maharahara Bay Galloway scored, and a penalty kick was obtained. Mr J. Grant, of Dannevirlie, ably controlled the game. During the match Maurice Power, Maharahara captain, had the misfortune to fracture his collarbone. In the evening a most enjoyable dance was field in Mr Cullinane’s woolshed, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. On Saturday afternoon the monthly meeting of the AVomen’s Division was held in’ the school. Despite the wintry weather there was quite a large gathering of members. During the afternoon a very interesting demonstration on the making of scagrass stools was given by Miss Hassctt. The competition for the month, an eggless cake, judged by Airs W. Knyvett, was won by Airs F. I’Anson. The white elephant competition caused much amusement. On Tuesday evening the school committee held a most enjoyable euchre party and dance. Extras wcie kindly supplied by Messrs A. Scott, R. Fairbrother and W. Sanders (accordion). The Alonte Carlo waltz was won b> Mrs Boyce and Air W. Sanders. _ The winners in the cardroom were Miss K. AVrenn 1, Airs F. I’Anson 2; Mr E. Duffy 1, Mr A. Scott 2. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Air AV. Sharplin. Air and Airs E. G. AVardle arc spending a short holiday at Tirimea. Air G. Hawkins, Alt AV. Cook and Air AAA Knyvett returned on Sunday from a holiday in. Alasterton.
