Woodville jc'rom Our Own Correspondent. Fire Board Meeting. The quarterly meeting of tlie Woodville Fire Board was held on Wednesday last, there being present Mr ,T. Elder (chairman), and Messrs J. W. Xorric, W. G. Hay, and C. Forbes, leave of absence was granted Mr A. 11. Hustwiek. The snperintendant of tho brigade, Mr H. McNeil reported for the quarter as follows:—Fire drills; six practices have been held, and the attendance has been good. Firo calls; the first call (o a chimney fire and the second call proved to be outside the boundary. The resignation of fireman Ralph was received on April 20 owing to his being transferred to Wellington. L. 7venden has been appointed to the rank of Fireman, having passed the necessary tests. It has been decided between the Pahiatua, Eketahuna and Woodville Fire Brigades to hold an annual competition for a shield. The first event took place at Woodville on June 10, Woodville winning two out of three events until the final when Woodville and Eketahuna tied with six points each. An extra event was arranged. Eketahuna finally carrying off the shield. A light is required at the back of the Fire Station for the purpose of hanging up hose at night and also foi training purposes. Tho chairman, Mi Elder, and C. Forbes, together with the secretary, were authorised to sign the agreement transferring the Fire Station chattels from the Borough Council to the Fire Board. The local committee was empowered to act m connection with the installation of a light at the back of the Fire Station. The chairman stated that the Brigade was to be congratulated on arranging an annual inter-brigade competition, and ho thought that it was a project that the Board should assist. It was finally decided to make the Brigade a donation of £3 towards its funds. The matter of chimney fires was discussed by the Board, and it was pointed out that a recent chimney fire had cost the Board 33/-. It was decided that in future the owners or occupiers of houses wherein chimney fires occur shall be prosecuted.
