HELPING CHILDREN TO SEE BEAUTIES OF NATURE.
A sightless woman has undertaken tho task of teaching children how best to use their eyes to appreciate tho natural beauties of England.
“Exploring in Nature’s Wonderland. ” was written by Miss Frieda Le Pla in a wooden shelter at the foot of the gardon of her home at Bcaconsfleld, Buckinghamshire, England. Sensitive at-tho thought that it might not bo a success, she kept the wotL so secret that even her mother, witih whom sho lives, knew nothing of it until it was ready for tho publishers. “When as a girl I had my sight,” Miss Le Pla explained, “I was completely absorbed with tho beauties of Nature, and not only observed them closely, but made the most detailed notes. These have been the greatest consolation to me. When my sight began to fail I had my notes transcribed into Braille, and from them havo delighted to tell simple nature stories to children.” Her child friends came so often to listen that sho concluded they must bo really interested, and in lonely moments she wrote out the stories on a .portable typewriter, which she uses expertly.
