Women’s Institutes Hold Annual Meetings

RONGOTEA At tho fifth annual meeting of tho Rongotea W. 1., held this week, Mrs. A. N. Morcom presided over a large attendance. The balance-sheet, disclosed a fair credit balanco which was most satisfactory. A competition for the best worked handkerchief was won by Mrs. R. Aird, Miss P. Teaz being second and Miss I. Bayli'ss third. The election of officers resulted: Committee, Mcsdames Roy Scott (president), N. S. Hogg and A. J. Will (vice-presi-dents), R. Aird, M. Bower, H. V. Caverhill, T. Collins (re-elected secretary), R. Daftcr, G. Hunt, A. N. Norcom, H. B. Thompson, Misses L. Davis, P. Frecklington and E. Knight. During the afternoon Mrs. Morcom and Mrs. Collins, who have acted as president and secretary respectively for the past two years, were each presented with a handsome sandwich set and a lovely bouquet from the members of tho institute as a small token to mark tho valuable work which they have done for tho institute sineo it was formed. Tho hostesses wci'o Mrs. A. C. Earles, Mrs. J. Aird, Miss T. Somer and Miss E. Duker, who served afternoon tea, after which a very pleasant meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem LINTON Mrs. Nash presided over the annual meeting of the Linton W.I. oil March S, when an interesting report of the year’s work was presented and a bal-ance-sheet showing a credit of £2 5s 4d. The election for the new committee resulted: President, Mrs. T. Lynch; vice-president, Mrs. Irvine; secretary, Mrs. D. Currin; treasurer, Mrs. A. Currin; Mcsdames Terry, Bomlcy, Craw, Noyes, Coker and Miss Young. General regret was expressed that Mrs. Nash, who has ably filled the position of president for tho past two years, could not see her way to continue for a further term. Mrs. Jack Lynch, who has been a most capable secretary over a period of two years, also retired, and will be much missed. Mrs. Nash presented the points prize for the year to Mm's Sutherland, who gained 10 points, Miss Craw being second with nine and Mrs. Currin third with four. Before afternoon tea Mrs. T. Lynch asked Mrs. Nash and Mrs. J. Lynch to accept a beautiful bouquet from the institute’s members, as an appreciation for their past services as president and secretary, both ladies suitably responding. Tho hostesses were Mrs. Beale and the Misses Young and B. Currin. Mrs. T. Lynch and Miss Young were appointed delegates for the next group meeting. Mrs. R. Coker was appointed pianist, for the coming year in placo of Miss Rix, who has done good service in that connection for tho past two years. Congratulations were oxtended to Mrs. Craw and Mrs. Nash on gaining second prize in the group competition for flour-bag article, in which Miss Sutherland also gained special mention. The birthday celebration, which will be held late' in April, will take tho form of a social evening, arrangements for which will bo finalised at a later date. COLYTON The annual meeting of the Colyton W.I. took place on Tuesday last, when there was a good attendance of members and several visitors. Mrs. E. E. Short (Cheltenham) gave an interesting talk on federations and their work and demonstration in floral work was skilfully given by Mrs Barltrop, of Feilding. Tho election of officers resulted: President, Mrs. Beatson (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Mcsdames J. and N. Skortall (re-clected); secretary and treasurer, Miss Beryl Jefferies (re-electer); committee, Mcsdames Thurston, G. Parker, M. A. MacLeod, Hall, Misses Burr, Hansen, Pearce and Murphy. At the next meeting on April 4 there will be a demonstration and a roll call, "What I would like best at the Institute during the year.” The hostesses wall be Mcsdames Hills, Hoekcn and Jensen, and Miss H. Hocken. Thanks were accorded Mrs. Short and Mrs. Barltrop, and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Amthem.
