Stability of the Dominion
LORD BLEDISLOE'S OPTIMISM REPEATED. WHAT PRODUCERS MUST BEAR IN MIND. In a review of the economic position at Pahiatua yesterday, His Excellency, the Govcrnor-Gcnoral, expressed confidence that Now Zealand, a country, would puli through more easily and with greater rapidity than other parts of the Empire. New Zealand’s prosperity depended upon tho people who lived and worked upon tho land and it was pleasing to noto the improved prices for primary products. Ho believed tho prices would be maintained' and improved still more. “Do all in your power to see that no second or third rato produce leaves New Zealand for the Homo markets,” he added, “for no country can profit by anything but the best and consistently tho best on tho British market.” Continuing, his Excellency said ho had heard that a few Wairarapa farmers contemplated sending third-rate lamb to Great Britain. Ho hoped they would not do anything so foolish for such action would serve to damage tho reputation of the finest lamb in the world and spoil New Zealand’s credit on the British market. Lord Bledisloe said that it would bo playing with lire to send whey butter Homo for there could be no guarantee that it would be sold as whey butter but as best New Zealand or blended with New Zealand to bring down the reputation of a very lino article.
