Heavy Week-end Downpour
DANNEVIRUE GETS UNFAIR SHARE
During the week-end electrical storms, distributed —though rather un-evenly—much-needed rain over a wide area of country adjacent to Palmerston North. The city itself had the benefit of a good shower on Saturday evening and another substantial downpour on Sunday afternoon. The distant rumbling of thunder and the majestic masses of moisture-laden clouds gave evidence of more copious downpours elsewhere, and tho residents of Dannevirke certainly received a larger share of tho visitation than they expected or needed just for the time being. Something in the nature Of a cloudburst hit the Southern Hawke’s Bay centre during the afternoon. The rain came down in sheets, so that all the ordinary channels on buildings and in the streets were quite unable to handle the water which found out the ■weaknesses in quite a few houses. Woodvillc to a lesser degree felt the effects of the rain, and no doubt the whole district will benefit considerably, while the cooler atmosphere accompanying tho change was by no means unwelcome.
