Entertainment Stadium For A. and P. Association
PROPOSAL TO BE GONE ON WITH. The proposal to convert one of the halls into an entertainment stadium was reported on at tho monthly meeting yesterday of tho general committee of tho Manawatu A. and P. Association by tho president (Mr. M. A. Eliott). Plans had been drawn up, ho said and submitted, to tho town committee, and tho proposal thoroughly discussed, with the result that the work would be undertaken. There would be seating accommodation for over 1000 and standing room for a further 500. The Boxing Association would alter its staging so that it could bo Jitted in, and dressing rooms, lavatories and everything necessary for an up-to-date stadium would be provided. Tho total cost to the association, he was pleased to be able to announce, would not exceed £l5O, which was £IOO less than had been authorised. Members of the town committee would provide all tho labour free. It had been agreed that there should be a charge of 6d for all entertainments, and the following programmo had been tentatively agreed on for this year: Maori display, Y.M.C.A. display, wrestling, boxing. Tho show would bo kept open till 10.39 p.m. to give patrons tho opportunity of going through tho hails hi the conclusion of the entertainments. Mr. J. A. Russell mentioned that on previous occasions when there had been entertainments, trouble had been experienced through tho crowing of roosters in an adjacent hall. Tho chairman said that there was a wall in between.
