MAORIS SECURE OVER AN OUNCE FROM A TON. Per Press Association. THAMES, Aug. 14. On Thursday, Maori claim-holders who had been putting in levees at the Kaka -claim, were successful, cutting an entirely new reef and obtaining a considerable quantity of picked stone. Nearly a specimen toil of stone was crushed with primitive appliances, and it yielded loz. 3dwt., valued at £8 17s 6d per oz. The Maoris will not allow anyone on the claim, but state that the stone looks more promising as the drive progresses. A 1 the rear of this claim, a Taranaki svndiealc which lias been putting in a level, discovered a reef about 14ft wide. A ton of this was crushed, and it yielded 17dwts. Some of the stone has been exhibited in Thames, and experienced miners say that it is particlarly good.
