Miss Catherine MacLeod, of Taonui, is spending a week in Palmerston North as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Murdo MacLeod.

The engagement is announced in an exchange of Edna Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Field, of Ohaupo, to Melvin Valla, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dunsball, of Woodvillo.

Tho winning ticket in a competition run in connection with the Takaro st.reet stall, for a supper cloth and duchess set, was No. 49, held by Miss Banks, of Christchurch,

Members of All Saints ’ Girls ’ and Boys’ Clubs held a combined social on Friday evening and spent a most enjoyable time in games, competitions and dancing, with Rev. P. Wiltshire controlling proceedings. The committee responsible comprised Misses M. Puklowski, M. Eichards, J. Palmer and I. Varcoe, and Messrs. A. Cutler and B. Hatch, with Bev, Mr. Wiltshire as convener. Music was obtained from a panatrope kindly loaned by Mr. Berryman. During the evening supper was served.

At All Saints ’ Church last evening a confirmation service was held by his Lordship tho Bishop of Wellington (Bt. Bov. Dr. Sprott). Over 100 candidates wero presented by tho. vicar (Canon G. Y. Woodward), over 60 of these boing girls and women. The church was packed with parents and friends and the service was beautiful and reverent throughout. The bishop spoke. to the candidates on the aim of a Christian life, taking as his themo St. Paul’s idea of having a “good conscience towards God and man.’’ At tho end of the service the candidates were presented with small devotional books by the vicar.
