Concert and Dance at Aorangi

A very fine concert and dance to raise funds for the improvement of Taonui school was staged at the Aoraugi Maori meeting house on Wednesday evening. The decorations were tastefully carried out with vivid green, red and yellow streamers, while punga ferns were use to give the finishing touches. Iho function was greatly enjoyed by all and tne financial results were altogether sari factory. A splendid programme was accorded much appreciation, every item being enthusiastically encored. i programme included songs by Misses O’Brien, Mcßrierty, Hughes, I. Dewar and Mr! Noel Shortall; vontriloquial item, Mr. B. Gray; humorous sketch “Prof. Dazzleum”; step dances, Miss D. Adsett; poi dances, native girls; am hakas, by native warriors. Mr. T. Collins, of Feilding (firman), later thanked all those who attended, and explained the object ° tho entertainment. On behalf of head teacher (Miss Curtis) and her assistant, the speaker made special me tion of tho Dewar family, of Aorangi, and particularly thanked them for the active part they had taken in a , 2 S the concert and dance. After th concert a dainty home-made supper, pre sided over by Mrs. and Miss Dewar, was dispensed. Mr Hyde played popular music for the dance that followed, and extras were contributed y - Jarrett and Mrs. Wereta. Mr. W. Dewar was master of ceremonies. A waltzing competition, judged y Messrs. A. Hyfe and W Dewar,,jas won by Mrs. Wereta and Mr. B. Penny Dancing was kept up merrily until 1 o’clock, when the entertainment was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” A dance in aid of the local ping pong club and Maori mission fund will be held at Aorangi in a little over a week. 3 time.
