Dairy Employees’ Award To Wait Awhile
FARMERS’ HARD TIMES. AUCKLAND, Aug. 8. By mutual agreement, an application by the Dairy Factory Companies' Association for a new award in the Northern District and an application by the employees for exclusion from the 10 per cent, cut have been deferred until the end of the year, when, failing the parties reaching an agreement at a conference, the Court will grant a special hearing of the dispute at Wellington or New Plymouth. The local disputes in other districts will also be postponed pending the conference. His Honour, Mr. Justice Frazer, yesterday suggested that the parties should confer, which they did, and this morning Mr. J. Roberts, for the employees, said that all the cards had been placed on the table by both sides and the farmers' jiosition appeared bad indeed. “We are willing to wait for better times,” he said, “but surely then the employers will restore the 10 per cent, cut.” Hi 3 Honour congratulated the parties in doing the wise thing. “I imagine that by December things will be im proved,” added His Honour.
