Head-on Collision Near Shannon

About 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon a collision occurred on. the bridge over tho Otaura just north of the Shannon borough boundary. A heavy lorry owned by Mr. Stokes, of Tokomaru, had just reached the bridge, when a car owned and driven by* Mr. Summers, Gladstone road, Levin, attempted to get across anu met the lorry in a head-on collision. Mr. and Mrs. Summers both received cuts from the glass out of tho windscreen and had to receive modieal attention. The car was considerably damaged, but tho lorry only received minor damage. It was fortunate that the car met on a headon collision as the railings of the bridge are rotten and if any weight had gone against them, they would have collapsed and let tho car into the stream which was running high.
