CAR CRASHES INTO MANAWATU BRIDGE
Passengers Escape Injury Failing to take the turn from the Esplanade side of the river, a three-seater car on Saturday afternoon crashed into the approach of the Fitzhsrbert bridge over the Manawatu river and damaged the structure for a distance of approximately 20 feet. It was a miracle that nobody was killed but, despite the fact that the vehicle was considerable knocked about by the tremendous impact none of "the three passengers was injured. Witnessed by Residents. The accident occurred about 4.30 o’clock and was witnessed by a number of citizens, who were amazed that the collision was not attended by moreserious consequences. The three-seater car, it is stated, approached the bridge along Fitzhorbert avenue, tho direction from the Squaro at considerable speed and, unable to make the turn, crashed into tho ham! and guide rails of the structure smashing the woodwork to splinters. The motor-car, although badly damaged, was able to leave the scene of the accident..
