Feilding Schools
MEETINGS OF COMMITTEES. The Manchester Street School Committee met on Monday evening, Mr Geo. Fitzpatrick presiding. The headmaster (Mr Mellroy) reported that the roll strength for the month totalled 445 while the average attendance was 417, eqqal to 93.7 per cent of the roll. Four new children were admitted while 14 left, making a loss of tenTho school football team journeyed to Eunterville on Friday evening last and played a friendly match against, the Hunteirvillo and district schools representatives. The return match will be played in Feilding on Saturday next. It was reported that arrangements wore well in hand for the holding of the children’s fancy dress ball in the near future. Mr Mellroy reported to the committee that support for the children’s savings bank scheme was not now as satisfactory as it had been when the idea was first taken up. Pennies appeared to be scarce. Lytton St. School. Mr J. Penney presided at the meeting of the Lytton Street School Committee on Monday night. Mr H. G. Hall (headmaster) reported that the roll strength was 317 with an average attendance of 293, equal to almost 93 per cent of the roll. Dealing with the school ground improvements it was ’stated that the metal font the ground at the rear of the school had arrived and had been spread. This had considerably improved the position but until the area was drained and asphalted, tho surface water nuisance would not be abated. Over 250 children attended the school's fancy dress ball which was, in every way, most successful. Mr Hall hoped that the dance would be made an annual event. On July 26 Mr and Mrs Hall took 35 children to tho Wellington Winter Show whore an. instructive, as well as an enjoyable day, was spent. The committee recorded its sincere thanks to. the Parents’ Association for promoting, tho children's dance and in connection with tho school ground improvements, decided to apply to the Wanganui Education Board for a subsidy otn tho money donated by the Parent’s Association to enable necessary drainage work to bo carried out. The thanks of tho committee were also accorded Mr and Mrs Hall for taking the h.ildren to Wellington. Messrs Hoald and Short were appointed tho visiting‘committee for the month.
