Capes Again

Capes, in all manner of modes and variations of vivacity, arc a very fashionable touch, to spring coats. A modification of the “coachman’s.’' .cape, rar miniseent of the past day of the horse, they furnish a ■ certain chic and .stylo of their own Kasha is a favourite material, and with a broadtail collar tapering to the waist, is a smart adjunct to any season’s wardrobe. Lapin fur is another trimming that Hollywood appears to favour, as it gives a distinctive finish to dark or light wraps.' Ono needs to be slender to get the right effect with capes, but it- is- wonderful what deft fingers and an artistic mind can do [with the figure. : Sports ensembles, so popular in any clime at any time, are made in striking dosigns and shades. Soft pastel ( tones arc combined most effectively, while for the vividly-inclinod there is a dazzling scope to choose from. Splashes of emerald green and orange yellow give character to a neutral background, and a scarf following the same shadings, helps to individualise the ensemble. Skirt,s to accompany the suits are pleated or flared and. arc worn three or four inches below the knees. Snug little felt hats perfect the harmony. The beret has a popular run here, and has a style of its own when exploited by the right person. Men affect the beret, too, and look very jaunty. Short Sleeves and Long Skirts.

Evening frpeks retain .their anklclength skirts, some finished with softly flowing trains, and, elaborated with frills and flares. The little pouf sleeve has copio -in .again, in -unison with the cjnpiro-waisted dresses, and it certainly looks very fetching after an era of bare arms. And,, talking of modes, one observant chronicler goes so far as to say that “with long skirts, women with beautiful faces and bow legs can once more face fho world with confidence.”
