WHEELMEN RACE TO FEILDING AND BACK

Sixteen cyclists went to i the starter on Saturday for the 24)-mile race from Palmerston North to Feilding and Back. The race, which was for a special cup donated by Mr. Smithcrs, of Peilding, was keenly contested and most exciting. The winner, 0. Prouse, with the second and third men, J. Hill and R. Sowerby, formed a bunch towards the finish, but in the final sprint Prouse prevailed and snatched the race by a length from Hill. A similar distance separated second and third. The placings were as follow: — 0. Prouse (13min.) .J J. Hill (lOmin.) .. 2 R. Sowerby (lOmin.) 3 \V. Pedley (lOmin.) .. .. .. .. .. ‘4 Next to finish were C. Olsen and L. McKenzie together in front of E. Blakeway and A. McGregor, who were followed by H. Benton and M. Donald, the latter of whom sprinted foi; fattest time. The time occupied by Prouse to cover the journey was 1 hour, 17min. 4Usecs., and by Hill 1 hour, 14min., 40secs., the second man being three minutes faster. Fastest time was secured by-M. Donald in 1 hour, Smin. A 4osec., Benton fce- | ing second fastest, in 1 hour, 9min., lOsec. Both these riders secured trophies. *

The race also counts for the Boucher Cup series, but the position has not been materially altered..
