OPPORTUNITY FOR PORT OF FOXTON
A TIMELY HINT. At yesterday’s meeting of the Foxton Harbour board, information was received that a large southern biscuit manufacturer would not pay freight on his products to Foxton, though ho would do so to either Wellington or Wanganui. . The informant suggested tfiat as tho manufacturer’s products had a big salo iu tho Manawatu and Feilding districts that tho board ask the Palmerston North and Foxton Chambers of Commerce to take action in the matter. The board decided to adopt tho course mentioned and also to thank the writer. Mr. Blenkhorn: “That is information we should be thankful for." Tar-sealing Beach Road. The Manawatu County council wrote advising that it would consider the tar. sealing of Beach road in due sequence, when other main highways, were completed. Mr. Nash: “A very astute reply."
Mr. Edwards maintained that tho tar-sealing of the road was a most important matter from the board’s point of view. It might be a 100 years before the work was done. If the local body would not do the work, the board itself should raise the money and do it.
Members were of the opinion that the board had not the power to undertake the work.
Mr. Nash, holding that Mr. Edwards could put up a good case for the board, moved that he be authorised to watt on the Manawktu County council in connection the matter. The chairman supported the motion. Mr. Edwards, however, declined the duty and the matter lapsed. Protecting South Spit.
In connection with the encroachment of srrad on to tho bar from tho south spit.,- Mr. Blenkhorn moved that particulars be obtained of the amount of land it would be necessary to purchase for planting* purposes to stop the sand movement. The board decided to adopt the course suggested.
