LECKIE WINS GREAT FIGHT WITH SARRON
Thrills all Through
NEW ZEALANDER DOWN FOR TWO BRIEF COUNTS CLEANER HITTING. Australian Press Association. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, June 23. In a' thrilling fight right through, Johnnie Leckic (8.10*) out-pointed American Pete Sarron (5.9) at the Sydney Stadium last night. A big crowd cheered the boxers to the echo. Sarron’s vicious swings occasionally connected and Leckic was more than once in a bad way. The latter was severely punished in the seventh and ivas floored twice for two short counts but he came back in an amazing manner and piled up the points.. Sarron got a rough handling thereafter, the New Zealander hitting cleaner than his adversary. He used lefts to the face freely and with telling effect but there was always a danger of Sarron scoring a knockout, so tigerishly did he fight. A large percentage of the crowd thought the fight should have been a draw.
