Working unostentatiously for tho poor of Palmerston North and district is a band of women whose efforts are worthy of greater public recognition and sympathy. They arc the members of the Salvation Army Homo League under the supervision of Mrs (Col.) Carmichael, Mrs Tarrant (sec.) and Mrs J. Foster (teasurer). Tho league meets each week to arrange for the distribution of charities to the needy and prepare garments to meet future demands. The value and extensive nature of their work may be judged from the fact that during 1928, no fewer than 1692 articles of clothing were handed over to people in necessitious circumstances, together with dozens of pairs of boots and shoes, bedding, bedstead and mattress, several rugs ,orders for groceries, coal and wood ,fruit for the sick. etc. The Homo league visitors also paid 84. visits during the year and members generally do their utmost to lighten the burdens of those in distress.
Gifts of clothing for passing on to the poor will be gladly collected by the League. Members, if donors will ring either phones 5849, 5092 or 6883.
