FEILDING LAWN TENNIS FINALS

Keen Play on Crowded Courts; MISSES RUTHERFORDS CHAMPIONS The Feilding lawn tennis courts were in ideal condition on Saturday when under perfect weather conditions the finals of the club championships were reached. The capacity of the courts were taxed to their utmost and they have never before presented such an animated appearance. Games in the ladies’ competitions had reached a stage 'permitting of tho finals to bo decided during tho afternoon and some very keen play was witnessed. The ladies championship singles was again won by Miss Margaret Rutherford who defeated Miss Eileen Eliott in the final (3 —3, o—2. The ladies’ B grade championship singles was won by Miss ]S T . Kuthcrford who defeated Miss B Dormer in the final o—l, 3 0, 0 1. The ladies’ handicap doubles was won by Misses M. Rutherford and E. Eliott who defeated Misses Curtis and Ellerm in tho final. _ . Progress in tho men’s competitions has been slow with the result that the important finals arc still to bo decided. The men have been very slow in gotting their matches off and this fact was the subject of no little comment. The men’s championship singles final will be played this afternoon at 3.30 o’clock between H. McConachic and W. Buddy, if. Amos and L. Boddy have yet. to meet to decide the B grade championship singles. The men’s handicap doubles was won by W. Crooke and V. Lawrence , who defeated J. Higgin and M. Waldiu in the final. The Andrews competition was won by Misses A. Shepherd and E. Eliott and Messrs M. Waldin and J. Higgin. It was announced during tho afternoon that a silver cup which has been ia tho club for 35 years and which had been lost sight of for several years had been found and this will be held by the winner of the men’s championship singles. Mr W. E. Carthcw, president of the club presented the trophies to the successful players. Tho following are tho details of Saturday’s play:— Ladies’ Championship Singles.
