DISASTROUS HOTEL FIRE AT HONG KONG
NINE EUROPEANS PERISH. PEOPLE LEAP PROM UPPER FLOORS. United Press Association —By Electri* Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday 7 p.m. HONG KONG, March 11. A disastrous tire at Hong Kong’s King Edward hotel in the early hours of the morning resulted in heavy loss of life. It is believed nino Europeans perished, including Mr. William Wood, representating Wood’s Great Peppermint Cure. Other victims were British, Prench and American ,but the actual number, including Chinese is unknown. The ruins are now being Taked for bodies. Eye-witnesses state that the fire spread with alarming rapidity, the inmates being trapped in the upper stories and being unable to reach the fire escapes. Valuable work was performed by men from British war ships. There were thrilling scenes as people lept from the inferno from the fourth and fifth floors into the sheets several missing and crashing to tho roadway. These, including genoral Chang Ming-shu, were seriously injured. It is stated that Wood had been in bed for weeks suffering from a chill. His remains have just been found.
