MOTOR ACCIDENTS IN THE WAIRARAPA

THREE SATURDAY MISHAPS. * Per Press Association. PAHIATUA, Last Night. Mesdames J. C. Davidson and Stuart Austin, Mr McKinnon and Nurse T. Hitchcock were knocked down near the town on Saturday night by a oar driven by Mr C. Lemberg, a settler of Rock road, Konini. With the exception of Mrs Austin, all were able to go to their homes. Mrs Austin, who is still unconscious, is in hospital. There was also an accident at Konini on Saturday. Mr Treadgold and Mr* M. Cairns, of Wellington, were motoring when the car left the road and over turned. Mr Treadgold sustained severe facial cuts, Mrs Cairns abrasions to the head, alto cuts and bruises. The victims were brought to town for medical treatment. There was a third accident on the same day. A three-seater car proceeding from Lower Hntt to the Waipukurau military camp skidded .in loose metal and landed in a ditch. The occupants, young men whose names at present are not able to be obtained, escaped unhurt. Power Lorry Wrecked at Railway Crossing MEETS EXCURSION TRAIN. HAMILTON, Last Night. A motor lorry belonging to the Thames Valley Power board, driven by C. McGirr, was completely wrecked at a crossing south of Tiran at six o’clock last night, by an excursion train roturning from Putaruru to Auckland. The driver suffered severe shock and injuries to the rib 3 and head. Three smashes have occurred at thW crossing during the last two years. Cyclist Sustains Fractured Skull DEATH IN HOSPITAL. HAMILTON, Last Night John Valentine Lerkc, aged 18, a clerk, died in hospital yesterday afternoon, having been thrown from a bicycle in the forenoon, sustaining a fractured skull. Deceased attended a church service and then rode down hill towards tho Tiver and fell in attempting to turn. He was taken to his home and the seriousness of hi« injury was unknown till the afternoon.
