NEW ROUND OPENS. v BUT INTEREST LAGS. The new round of the Feilding Cricket association senior competition, which opened on Kowhai park on Saturday, saw Public Service defeat Feilding and Old Boys defeat Colyton. The teams were minus players who travelled to Levin to play ilorowhenua and consequently they were not up to strength and, where possible, relied upon substitutes drawn from the Nondescripts, whose match failed to ma- ( terialisc. The most interesting innings was that provided by the “old timers,” Stalker aud Fish, who filled vacancies in the Public Service eleven. This partnership was most amusing, both hitting out . freely for fours and sixes and refusing to . entertain any consideration for singles. They demonstrated to youth that it was possible to hit boundaries from almost any bowling and the pace, while they were at the wickets was merry and bright. They added 75 to the score of 171 made by Public Service in reply to a weak 53 provided by Feilding. Fitzpatrick and Jefferies were the only members of i'ei'ding’s team to roach double figures, whilst four bats were dismissed for “ducks.” Colyton failed to raise a full toam and from seven wickets provided 55. Old Boys did not make a strong reply and had it not been for Whitehead brothers, their score would have been well below that of their opponents. Colyton’s second strike was weaker than its first effort, the seven wickets falling for a total of 25. Following are the details:— Feilding v. Public Service. FEILDING. First Innings.
