The patience of our grandmothers! When an old lady died in our town recently she left' to her daughter a’ donblc'bed feather mattress about eight inches thick which she had made herself nearly eighty years ago, says, an Australian writer. She was married early and this mattress formed part of her glory-box. Her brothers brought her the feathers of all the birds they shot, and each feather was stripped from its quill. The mattress took several years to complete, and. since then it has had many coverings and travelled many miles. Right up, till her death the old lady’s hobby was making feather pillows, and each grand-daughter received a pair on her marriage.
