MILDREW ON LINEN
Methods for dealing with mildew on linen are given in an exchange by a correspondent, who advises . damping them and then rubbing them with a good toilet soap. Following this they should be exposed all day to tho hot sun, kept moistened, finally washed out, anil tho garment boiled. If this fails to remove them, tiy the effect of coating tho stains with a paste Of French chalk and kerosene,- and exposing tnem to tho sun as before. Boiling in milk or buttermilk is said to remove tho stains also. Failing these methods, the only thing to do will bo to soak tho linen in a solution of chloride of lime. Dissolve 2oz. chloride of limo in a pint of ; water. Allow it to stand for 24 hours .birring it up occasionally. Then lot i rho sediment settle and pour off tho clear liquid. Bottlo and cork for future use. Uso about threo or four tablcspoon&ful of this solution to .enough water.to soak the.linen comfortably. Leave 'it soaking for about a quarter of an hour. Then rinse out thoroughly. Do. not put tho hands in tho limo solution, but uso sticks to handle. '
