PINCUSHIONS OF WALNUT SHELLS
Wet afternoons when "wo have to stay indoors! What can wc find to do with them? Hero is something interesting and useful that wc can make with walnut shells. The shells themselves cost nothing, while odds and ends of silk, satin, or some other pretty material will bo found in Mother's workbasket, and can easily bo made into fascinating little pincushions, A tube of liquid glue, a pqir of scissors, soma thin wire for the handles and narrowribbon to cover tho wire, and cottqu wool for tho stuffing are the only other things needed. _ \V • - £ It should bo quite easy to get some walnut shells. If they are dusty scrub them -with a nail brush in warm water. They will dry in a minute or two. ('•' Fill one half of the empty shell firmly with cotton wool. Then cut out a circle of light-coloured silk, onp-cighth-inch bigger than tho size of the walnut top. Cover about : 4i inches of tho wire with ribbon to match the silk, leaving tho ends uncovered, ;: bcnd into the shape of a basket handle, stick the ends with liquid glue, and push them into tho cotton wool, at each eiid of tho shell. Then moisten the edge of tho circle of silk with .liquid glue, and tuck -t in neatly all round tie cotton stuffing. Tie tiny bows of narrow ribbon tightly on each side of the handle. If there is any varnish in Daddy’s workshop, glaze tho outside of tho shell with it. Push a.few pins into the cushion and hang it on tho dressing table. Several in different parts of tho house wiß be useful, for pins are always being needed in a hurry. ;■
