Carnarvon
HOCKEY. From Our Own Correspondent. On Wednesday last the local Ladies’ Hockey Club journeyed to Eongotoa to play a friendly match with the latter team. This game was a return game as earlier in the season Eohgotea came to Carnarvon. A fast and exciting game was played with Carnarvon eventually running out winners by 5 goals to nil. Mr. A. C. Eades capably controlled the game. The thanks of the local club aro due to Misses McKelvio and Harris and Mr. John Hill for placing their cars at, the, disposal of the players. On Saturday the Cup fixtures wore continued a further step when our local Ladies played High School Old Girls at Carnarvon. High School Old Girls fielded a team two short and . wore therefore at a disadvantage, . Carnarvon eventually proved victorious by 4 goals to. 1 ,and -thereby still maintain an unbeaten record this season. Their success in this game absolutely secures them the Championship Gup for the season despite the fact that they still have two games to play as their commanding lead cannot. be beaten even if they lost the remaining games, , The local men played Pirates also on the home ground; and ran out winners by 3; goals to L This proved .a hard and fast garde, both sides striving to increase the score board, Wally Turner. for the winners as left half played a splendid game land was instrumental in saving his side on many occasions, whilst'Bob Florence, right full back was very safe and his hard hitting proved a tower of strength to the winners. A. Groombrido and W. Moech and their ■ goalie piayed very safe and sure games for the losers. At the conclusion of the games the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea. Mr. McClelland returning thanks for tho • visitors and Mr. J, C, Gibbons replying for the local Clubs. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Eeeve-of Ohura are paying’ a "visit to the district on holiday and arc 'staying with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Eeeve: Miss Esmo Hill one of our local young ladies who attends the Technical School at Palmerston North journeyed to Napier with the Technical School Hockey Team during the week when Palmerston North' proved victorious in defeating Napier. Oppossunis arc reported fairly plentiful in certain parts of this district and one local farmer" has taken out a license and hopes to secure a haul ere the season closes. . " New School,■. Although the grant has gone through weeks ago the' Education Board so far have not commenced the building of the new Clydesdale Public School. '
