A cable from Eome announces the death of Signor Giolitti, ex-Premier. Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P. for Hutt, will arrive back in Wellington by the Maunganui on July 30.

Mr, A, Bawson, tof Auckland, was welcomed at yesterday's meeting of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Luncheon Club.

Sir William Hall-Jones, K.C.M.G., M.L.G., of New Zealand, was presented with the freedom of Folko"*'”’'' on Mon. day, states a cable. Sir William was born at Folkestone in 1851, and arrived in New Zealand at 1875. A vote of thanks for their excellent services during - the recent National Dairy Show was accorded Mr. H. S. M. Quigley and Miss Miller, of the staff of the Dannevirke A. and P. Association, at yesterday’s meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association.

Messrs Bernard C.' Eyder, F.E.G.S., and Wiliam Lingford of Broome, West Australia, members of the recent Douglas Wylie expedition to the remote parts of northwest Australia, are at present visitors to Palmerston North, they leave for Auckland towards the end of the week to catch the Niagara for Sydney, with the object of joining a further expedition to the north Pacific, including New Guinea, the Caroline Islands, and Ladrone Islands. At yesterday’s meeting'of the'general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., chairman, extended a very cordial welcome to the secretary of the association, Mr. W, T. Penny, who has so far recovered from his recent serious illness as c to be able; to resume /his duties. Mr. Penhjf received a general chorus of welcome from memMr. Linklater mentioning that the last show was the first in 17 years that Mr. Penny had missed. At yesterday’s meeting of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Luncheon Club the following newly-elected members were welcomed: —Messrs B. L. C. Aitchison, E. Eary, L. Brown, G. Caley, A. H. Charker,, W.
