ALFRED O’SHEA AT THE OPERA HOUSE

A warm welcome awaited Mr. Alfred O’Shea, the celebrated tenor, and his associate artistes, Miss Kathleen Fitzgerald, pianiste, and Miss' Claire Hartge, violiniste, on their 'second visit to Palmerston North. The Opera. House was. comfortably : filled and the stage appropriately decorated, . .. An ! interesting and , .programme was opened by Miss V. 'Fitzgerald with a piano solo “Finale” from B Minor Sonata (Chopin). It was beautifully rendered. Mr. O’Shea then appeared in “Un di allazurro spazio” from the opera “Andrea Chenier”/ An excellent rendering occasioned his return with two fine items V A Dream ’ ’ and “Quest O’ Quells.” Miss Claire Hartge next appeared with a violin solo f ‘ Hungarian Rhapsody ’ ’ (Hauser), and an encore was. immediately forthcoming. , The next item the two tenor arias from Handel’s semele, “Sleep, Why Dost Thou Leave Me’ r and the well known “ Where Ere You Walk.” Mr. O’Shea.further obliged with “Bonny Mary of Argyle” and “Serenata”' (Tozelli). Miss Fitzgerald’s next appearance was in “A Night in May” and “Nigger Dance” for which she was duly recalled. Mr. O’Shea gave Hahn’s “Si Mes vers avaien-des ailes” followed by Kahn’s “Avo Maria” with violin obligato. F6ur encores were demanded, by the delighted audience. Miss Hartge’s final appearance was in “Souvenir” and “Pocmc Hongrois’’ and Mr. O’Shea concluded a memorable concert with “At the Mid Hour of Night” and “An Evening Song.” •
