From Our Own Correspondent, Foxton Wins Wednesday Rugby. The following represented the Foxton Wednesday team against Levin at Levin last Wednesday, at 3 p.m.: D. Ball. C. Andersen, S. Andrews, R. Ball, W. Hirini, H. Taylor, J. Huff, K. Hartley, A. Wright, L. Andrews, G. Westwood, N. Huff, J. Newton, Honour, S. Small. There was a fair attendance to witness the game, and those present were well rewarded for attending as brilliant football was given by all players on both sides, no one deserving any more credit than another, with perhaps the exception of Newton whose tackling was deadly. Foxton won the toss and decided to play with the sun. From the kick off, the ball went to H. Huff who started a passing rush, the ball_ going through the hands of Ball and Newton but was stopped by Levin short of the line. A scrum ensued and Levin got possession of the oval and started, off a good passing rush, which was stopped by Taylor, who, with a well judged kick, found the line woll up the field. Prom' the line out the. Foxton forwards Anderson and Andrews started a passing bout with the result that the latter scored a good try between the posts. H. Huff's kick at goal was successful. Foxton 5, Levin nil. From the following Mck off Levin renewed strenuous attacks and pressed Foxton into their 25. Hard play by both Foxton and Levin forwards resulted in the Levin fqrwards getting the ball to their backs, where Stiekells was stopped short, of the line, where a scrum iwaa- ordered. From the, re-sulting-scrum Foxton got possession of the ball and after mulling same Levin scored. Warren's kick at goal was unsuccessful. Half time now sounded with, the scores reading Foxton 5, Levin 3. Upon resuming play there was some excellent back work on both sides, passing rushes being witnessed from one end of the field to the other in several instances. From a good passing bout Ball cut in and passed to Westwood who scored a good try. The kick at goal failed. Foxton 8, Levin 3. From the kick out Levin backs gained possession and very, nearly scored, but for a forward pass. The referee ordered a scrum, and from the resulting scramble Freeman forced his way over the lino. The kick at goal failed. Foxton 8, Levin 6. Toward the closing stages the defence on both sides -was very sound, Newton, of Foxton, stopping a couple of Levin attacks. By sound attacking Foxton backs again participated in a passing bout, and Westwood who kicked to the Levin full back caught him in possession with Wright aid Anderson following up. They secured the ball and from another passing rush, Wright,, scored. Westwood’s kick was a failure. Foxton 11, Levin 6. After some minutes give and take play the whistle sounded with scores reading, Foxton 11, Levin 6. Austin Banner Fixtures. The following are the fixtures for the first round of the Austin Banner Rugby competition for the primary schools:— June 9: Levin y. Foxton, at Foxton; Manakau v. Otaki, at Otaki; Shannon a bye., June 16: Foxton v. Manakau, at Manakau; Shannon v. Otaki, at Otaki; Levin a bye. Juno 23: Levin v. Shannon, at Levin; Foxton v. Otaki, at Foxton; Manakau a bye. On Saturday a match will be playedon the Racecourse between the Foxton juniors and seniors.
