Halcombe.

From Out Own Correspondent. The usual monthly meeting of th« Halcombo School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, when the chairman (Kev. Tc Punga) presided. Members present were Messrs. Sterne, Siegel and Paulding. The headmaster's report came to hand. During the first torm holidays some necessary work was attended to in the laying .of concrete slabs in connection with outbuildings, the work being undertaken by Mr. G. J. Caiman, metal and cement being supplied by Mr. W, B. Paulding. With the commencement of the term, the first instalment of pupils were taken to the dental clinic in Feilding. The staff and committee appreciate the kindly services of Nurse Hughes in providing hot drinks for the pupils and seeing them safely on the train. A visit was paid to'the school by the Board’s architect, who promised to take away desks needing repairs. A vote of thanks was accorded the headmaster, and Mr. Faulding for work done gratis during the holidays. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the business of the evening.

EUGBY. Halcombe Juniors v. Eata. The .above teams played at Rata on Wednesday afternoon, Halcombe winning by 16 to nil. pfcESONAL. The Rev. An epidemic of influenza has being going the rounds, but appears to bo in a mild form. ON THE LAND. The exceptionally line autumn has enabled the farming community to make rapid headway with all top dressing operations. In place of the small consignments landing hero just a few years ago, hundreds of tons of artificial manures are now being used throughout the district with great benefit to pastures. The abundance of feed is making the task of drying off dairy herds a difficult one. Usually the cow that is milked once daily is quickly dried off, but not so this season. JiNNIVERSAEY. The anniversary of the Gospel Hall was celebrated on Wednesday afternoon and evening, when a large number sat down to the sumptuous tea provided and served by the ladies from 5 to 7 p.m. Adults' and children both had a very, happy time, and thoroughly enjoyed the socialablo little function.
