AN UNPRECEDENTED BIRTH RATE DECLINE

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. During the year 1927, 27,881 births (14,291 males and 13,690 females) occurred, the lowest recorded figure since 1919 and a decrease of 592 over the previoyj year. The low birth rate is unprecedented In the history of the Dominion. The percentage of still births to living births increased from 3.11 in 1926 to 3.16 in 1927. In 1927 11,611 deaths were registered compared with 11,819 for 1926.
