METHODIST CUBA STREET CIRCUIT

QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly business meeting of the Cuba Street Circuit was held at Bunnythorpe Church last evening. The Rev. Harold T. Peat presided over an attendance of 38 officials. Reports revealed that nine new members had been received on profession of faith during the quarter. Very encouraging reports were received from the Young People’s Department in the various centres, though two new teachers are required at Cuba Street, and numerous cases of, sickness had reduced the average attendance during the last few • Sundays. Most favourable comment was made upon the work of the Ladies’ Guilds at Cuba Street, Bunnythorpe and Longburn and tributes paid to the excellent work of these organisations, . . . ; The receipts for the quarter exceeded the expenditure by a few shillings. Mr W. Flatt whs welcomed to the position of Junior Circuit Steward in place of Mr G. B. Watkins who had removed from the district. Various committees were set up with the following as officers: — Foreign Missions — Messrs R. H. Billens and G. G. Hancox, M.A., chairman and secretary respectively for the whole circuit; Mr J. H. Dixon, Bunnythorpe secretary: Mrs F. S. Birch, Longburn secretary. ; Home missions—Mr, T. Brown, ■ Circuit secretary; Mr J. H. Fowler, Bunnythorpe secretary; Mr, A. E. Dobson, Longburn secretary. Young People’s Department—Mr T. Brown (Cuba Street); Miss D.’ Ransom (Bunnythorpe) ; Mr A, '< E. Dobson (Longburn). Preliminary arrangements were made for holding the Annual Public meetings in connection with each of these Departments. M J. H. Dixon was duly appointed one of the Circuit Stewards for the newly constituted Ashhurst-Bunny-thorpe Circuit and all arrangements are well in hand to induct the Rev. F, J. Parker as Superintendent Minister in charge of the new Circuit. . Mr. W, Eggleton and Mr. T, R. Hoddei' gave brief. reports of the recent conference in -Auckland which they had attended as Circuit and District representatives respectively, both speakers stating that the Rev. F. J. Parker was coming to his new Circuit with the highest credentials. Everyone in that large conference, representing the whole of New Zealand Methodism, felt that he was eminently qualified to direct the affairs of the new Circuit. The people were to be congratulated on having secured the services of so capable a man. In future there will be three distinct Circuits .each independent of the other, instead of the two Circuits as previously: ‘‘St. Paul’s” including Aokautere — Rev. J, E. Parsons; “Cuba Street” including Longburn— Rev. Harold T. Peat; “AshhurstBunnythorpe” including Pohangina and Hiwinui—Rev. F. J. Parker. This means that a very real advance has been made, as more effective work will be accomplished in the interests of the Kingdom. Mr Peat paid a tribute to the work of the local preachers, and to the generosity of the motorists who so graciously conveyed the local preachers to their appointment:, stating that he felt sure that both preachers and motorists would gladly continue to assist the new Circuit in the future as they had in the past. Bunnythorpe Ladies’ Guild entertained the officials by, providing, a delicious supper, and after a vote of thanks by Mr T. R. Hodder, and several speeches of congratulation to the new circuity tho chairman pronounced the Benediction thus concluding a most memorable meeting.
