ALL ABOUT A PICNIC
MEN WHO ARE PAID TO ENJOY themselves.
Considerable discussion ensued at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council in regard to the question of whether borough employees should bo given the privilege of attending the employees’ picnic on full pay, or stay at home and get nothing. Originally tho Council decided the former should be the case, but later the decision was reversed, on the grounds that some employees might not be able to afford the expense of the outing, in which case, a hardship would be Inflicted. The re-opening Of the matter last evening followed upon a deputation from the picnic committee, comprising Messrs, J. R, Smith and H. J. Kemp, who urged that the Council should again adopt the no picnic—no pay conditions. Mr. Smith stated that the primary object of Die picnic was to give wives and children of employees a day away from home, whilst it was also in the minds of tho committee to make the function eventually something in the nature of a gala day for Palmerston North.
