[By Electric Cable—Copyright,] [Aust. and N.Z. Cabla Association.] (Received Monday, 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 13.
Regarding the dissatisfaction among the minors in the New Guinea Goldfields, Mr. 11. Clark, a mining engineer. and representative of the New Guinea Gold Company, who is visiting Sydney, explains that the whole trouble is over four leases. A third of Edie Creek is held by the discoverers, embracing a considerable area. Appli. cations wore made for twenty-one other leases surrounding and adjoining the four. After fruitlessly waiting for months for official action, tho Miners' Association decided to mark off the whole area into miners’ right claims of 200 by 100 feet and ballot for them. After tho ballot those who obtained claims got to work, but an official radio message was received staling that the twenty-one claims had been refused and four original leases granted Consequently, the men who had drawn claims within the four leases were compelled to cease work under risk of a heavy fine or imprisonment.
The holders arc left stranded until tho Warden arrives and adjusts matters. Tho position of the unsuccessful claim-holders is serious.
