Not that the trout are of “fish story” proportions, but the scenery offers to the angler the charm of complete isolation, rest and peace, and there is no doubt that this characteristic has made the river Dove and Dove Dale famous.
New Zealand is not without equally charming fishing grounds, and locally pleasurable conditions for the enthusiastic angler arc not far to seek. The institution of an Anglers’ Club in Feilding has done much to promote interest in this pastime and sport, but whilst the senior members have taken up angling enthusiastically, the juniors have so far failed to appreciate the efforts of the Club to develop interest. Perhaps the juniors are lacking that appreciation of the atmosphere which aids perscA’erancc Avhen anticipations arc not being realised. Angling requires patience along with an appreciation of the art of hooking- and landirw the game. ■
The competitions arranged by the Feilding Anglers’ Club for Labour Day attracted good entries from the senior members, but the response from the juniors Avas decidedly disappointing.
