TRADES UNION PICNIC
RECORD GATHERING AND IDEAL WEATHER.
i Saturday was an ideal day for a pic. nic. and between 800 and 000 persons javaiied themselves of the opportunity jof the Trades’ Union gathering at Ashhurst domain, to spend a most enjoyable day in the open. Such a large assemblage was beyond the anticipation of the committee that had I arrangements in hand, consequently 'members felt that their efforts were amply rewarded. The Ashhurst dotnain has witnessed many gatherings lof a similar nature this year, but 'hardly one that will compare with Saturday’s in enthusiasm and enjoyment. Visitors came from long distances, and the presence of the Foxton stiver band, which p ayed music at intervals throughout the day, add’ od to the liveliness of the proceedings. The children were also specially catered for in the way of toys, each child receiving a present. Races and competitions were contested, results being as follow: Boys’ 75 yds.—"Croon 1, Ball 2, Barrett 3. Girls' 50yds.—Iris Milne 1, M. iGulliver 2, Myrtle Gay 3.
