MB. NOEL ELMSLIE FOR SOUTH AFRICA. [Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Last Night, Notification has been received from the Department of Overseas Trade in London by cablegram that Hf.M. Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. Noel Elmslie, baa been appointed to the post of H.M. Senior Trade Commissioner in South Africa, In auccpssion to Mr. W. G. Wickham, who was for some years Commissioner. In New Zealand and who has now retired on the grounds of ill-health. Mr, Elmslie left New Zealand for an official visit to the United Kingdom last March and upon Mr. Wickham’s resignation, arrangements were made for him to proceed temporarily to Johannesburg, where he has been in control since November, , Mr. ElmsUei’s career includes 12 years’ experience in the engineering profession during which time he spem four years in Australia. After servln. in the Army from September, 1914, 1 April, J. 918, he was seconded for dm; as section director at the Ministry o Munitions. He entered the Dopartmo of Overseas Trade in April, I9lff r ana' was assistant-director in the Empire division of that department until bis appointment as Trade Commissioner In New Zealand In February, 1923, A successor to Mr, Elmslie as Trade Commissioner In New Zealand has not yet been selected, but the appointment will b 0 made as soon as' possible.
