In the Supreme Court, trial of Baune and Smith, charged with fraud on a Post Office Savings Bank, postal bank oliicers gave evidence Ithat nt first cheques on the Bank of New Zealand, Invercargill, deposited la* the savings j banks were drawn against before the cheques were cleared. It is alleged; the money was divided between the pair. One postal official said .nothing was .wrong with their system, but the human element entered into it His Honour said when two nfen could draw such sums from the bank/ after merely depositing a piece of paper, something was wrong with the system. H e questioned if, in any other banking institution in the Dominion. \ a man could have done what had' been done. The case is unfinished.
