NOTES OF THE DAY
A motor car failed to negotiate the rather high railway crossing at the junction of Makino road and North street on Sunday evening. The vehicle was seen yesterday morning, almost end up, with its nose in a culvert. No superficial damage was apparent and it not known whether the occupants were Injured or not. The car was later removed. While shunting operations were in progress at the Feildlng station yard yesterday afternoon, the rear boggy of a goods truck came off the line. The application of a couple of jacks soon remedied the position. During this week a census of vehicular traffic over the Kakariki railway bridge is being taken by the railway official in chargg. The information is required by the Main High, ways Board. For the quarter ending December 81, the deposits at the Feildlng Post Office Savings Bank amounted to £65,84T/11/8, and the withdrawals amounted to £54,480/2/3. The Fellding Amateur Swimming Club will conduct an evening carnival to-morrow and it is reported that excellent nominations have been received. Palmerston Ncrth and Marton competitors will take part. Sheepbreeders from throughout New Zealand will be present in Feildlng to-day to attend Parorangi eighth annual sale of stud and flock Romney Marsh rams. The sale is being held on the Feilding A. and P. Association's grounds and commences at 11 a.m.
