MOTOR ASSOCIATION.
TECHNICAL TRAINING SCHEME. GRANTS WITH GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. [Per Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Lust Nght. In accordance with the Association's policy of holding its annual conferences alternatively in the North and South Islands, the Council recommended that the next conference be held in Christchurch. The recommendation was adopted. It was intimated that Messrs G. M, White (Auckland) and A. Trellaven (Christchurch) had been elected this year's vice-presidents for tho North and South Islands.
A comprehensive report on a technical training scheme for apprentices in the trade was submitted by a committee set up af the previous conference. Tbo report recommended that facilities offered by technical colleges be made full use of. Inquiries made by committee showed that college authorities were willing and anxious to co.operafe in a training scheme which should bo controlled by the wholesalers and motor trade associations. Grants would be made to, colleges, which should carry a Government subsidy, £1 for £l. The course of instruction should cover three years. It was felt that, in the interests of the trade, every effort should be made to carry out the scheme. With the idea of securing the cooperation of all motoring interests in the Dominion, with special reference to motor legislation, it was decided to call a conference at Wellington at an early date.
