OPIUM TRAFFIC

MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED IN PERSIA. [By Electric Cable —Copyright]. [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] TEHERAN, July S. Martial law has been proclaimed in Ispahan owing to the refusal of the opium merchants to conform to the Persian Government's regulations ordering all dealings in the drug to be conducted under the supervision of the excise officials. As a protest against the regulations, the Merchants kept the bazaars closed for a fortnight and business was at a stai'ditill. A number of the leading protesters were arrested.
