The Senate Tariff Committee has agreed upon a tariff of 30 cents a bushel on wheat. Senator Underwood declared that this would increase America’s food bill by 100 million dollars annually. In nearly every case the Committee has increased the duties on fruits over the House of Representatives* figures. Jellies, jams and marmalades have been advanced to 40 per cent ad valorem from 28; peaches, pears, plums and prunes (save in the fresh state or in brine) to 40 per cent from 20.
