BUTTER AND MEAT MARKETING.
(To the Editor.) Sir,-'—'The Government is to be congratulated for its enterprise in initiating a New Zealand effort to market her products in a comprehensive manner. The Premier is also prepared for a New Zealand paid Advisory Board, and another in London: and to make as much use as possible of the present Board of Trade. It is most certain that if the personnel of these boards are not eminently honourable, shrewd, experienced and capable men, the whole venture will •prove a failure, even with a Government recognised right of veto. There are various intricate problems to be faced in addition to the chartering, or otherwise providing shipping space; with wharf, docking and cold storage accommodation at ports outside New Zealand. It is most important that we farmers, and the business community, should have a voice in seJecting the members of such boards and arranging their constitution. Meat, wool and dairy products will probably be handlef. How many dairymen representatives will represent butter and cheese interests? How will they' be elected or selected? Who will represent the Chambers of Commerce, the Harbour Boards and Town Councils? Have the Boards of Trade in Now Zealand and in England proved satisfactory to people in either the Homeland or this country. If they' have not why have they not? The whole matter requires the moist careful attention of the whole community' because even the is dependent on the success of such a comprehensive marketing venture. —I am, etc. A.
