PLUNKET ART UNION.
Ah many of our readers have already purchased tickets for the Wellington Plunket Home Art Union, considerable interest lies in the large announcement in this issue respecting the prize for same. When the Art Union was originally advertised, it was stated that the first prize would be a ■•Chevrolet motor car plus £10(h However, legal difficulties ensued in connection with the motor car (which was donated by Mr J. R. McKenzie). Some objection was taken by the authorities to this form of prize-giving. Mr McKenzie has now kindly agreed to substitute £3OO, worth of alluvial gold specimens in place of the motor-car, which, with the original £IOO worth, will makethe prize of the value of £4OO. Those; who have purchased tickets will, of. course, participate in all the privn leges of the new scheme. The popu- ; larity of this Art Union has been attested by the big demand for tickets from all parts of New Zealand. The generous prize, and the excellence of> the cause behind the scheme, are responsible for this result. The pro-, ceeds will go towards the fund lor providing Wellington with a modern and commodious Plunket Headquarters, which will also form the nucleus for a Karitane Home. The citizens of Wellington have already subscribed £3OOO for the purpose, but a much, larger sum is required. Tickets can be obtained from J. B- McKenzie, Fancy Goods Dealer, Cuba street and Willis Street, Wellington, and Branches throughout New Zealand; and* from leading retailers, tobacconists, and hairdressers; also from the Plunket Rooms, or the Hon. Secretary, P O. Box 208, Wellington. Mail orders should enclose stamped, addressed envelope. _____
